i thought i wud try and write a review of Wicked on the 28th July 09.

Ashleigh Gray - Elphaba (standby)

NOMTW - I was sitting at the front row of the circle which is a brilliant view. When the show started the first thing I did was watch for oliver in the ensemble. *Major Swoon* I was chuffed i spotted him coz he is gorgeous! Then Dianne floated down on her bubble and I cudnt stop smiling. She is my fav Galinda ever and I was sooo happy she was performing coz i missed her last time. She sang this first song soooo beautifully and hit all the difficult notes perfectly. Brilliant start!

DOS - No clap for Ashleigh when she ran in .. gutted but it didnt seem to phase her. Dianne on hilarous form as ever during this scene. She got a huge laugh for "somethings wrong I didnt get my way!"

TWAI - Ashleigh was simply brilliant in this song she really shone. She has such a different rich voice but also very powerful one ... the girl can really belt. She did a few cool rifts in this song i particularly loved her "I'd be so happy I could melt" She acted throughout as well. One of the best versions I have ever heard. And she got loads of cheers at the end.

WITF - Very funny. Massive laughs and claps at "Exceedingly peckular and quite impossible to describe" ... "Blonde!" Ashleigh did a great curtsey imitation of Dianne. To which Dianne did a great disgusted look! She also made fun of Dianne's voice during the "your voice" bit of the song. Dianne also did loads of great *toss toss* throughout.

SB - David Stroller is a great Dr Dillamond his "baaaad" really echos in the theatre. Nothing else to note.

DTL - Omg omg *major major swoon* oliver and those trousers! Lord he is sooo fine!! And he sings this song so well. Dianne did a great *toss toss* to make sure oliver noticed her. They clearly hav a great connection. Natalie as Nessa was really good, she plays nessa very innocently and her and Alex are a great team. Ashleigh's elphie dance was so sad a few people laughed but i cudnt i just felt so sorry for her. Great dancing by the ensemble throughout

P - My fav song of the entire nite, Dianne was seriously wicked. She had the audience in stitches throughout wiv her little giggles and squeals. People were also laughing when she was singing various lines which ive never known b4 and Dianne totally played up to it. Ashleigh did sum great acting in this as well. "Its a bit perky" was esp funny. *toss toss* was great ashleigh proper went for it the second time and ended up with hair all over her face. Dianne's "ballgown" was brilliant Ash jumped out of her skin when she screamed it the second time! The "ooooh hello" got the loudest laugh of the whole nite and she got a clap as well. Dianne got the loudest cheer of the whole nite after this song well deserved completely brilliant.

INTG - When Ash grabbed oliver's hand it was so sweet they held it for quite a while as well. Oliver running off in the wrong direction was funny as well. Another fav... I cried throughout this song which i dont usually do. Ashleigh just sang it so beautifully and really acted throughout. She broke my heart.

Station scene - I hav to giv this a mention coz it was pure brilliance. It was so sweet when Oliver came down wiv the flowers Dianne's look was priceless. Dianne got a few claps when she bowed coz she was changing her name and Oliver and Ashleigh laughed. The best line of the whole show "It's Glinda now" Dianne screamed it and it was sooooo funny.

OSD - I love the spectacle of this scene. The ensemble are so good in it. Love Dianne's pose for the camera.

SM - Sam Needham is a really good wizard but gotta say this is my least fav song of the whole show. Nothing to note.

DG - Through this song u cud really see the friendship between Elphie and Glinda. "I hope your happy my friend" was so heartfelt. One of the best versions I have ever heard, if not the best. I saw Ash last Dec and she has improved so much since then particularly in this song. Her vocals are excellent and her "Its meeeeeeee" was so powerful yet seemed so effortless for her.

TG - Once again i had tears in my eyes that line "Happy is what happens when all your dreams come true ... well isnt it?" Dianne sang it wiv such beautiful emotion. She sang this song faultlessly once again.

TWWOTE - Natalie really shone. Her voice is not as powerful as Caroline's but her acting completlely makes up for it. Natalie portrays nessa as much more of a bitter and angry character. Its such a contrast between the innocent naive nessa in Act 1. I felt terrified when she was screaming at Boq not to leave. The last line of the song "We deserve each other" was chilling. Natalie put so much emotion into it like she was disgusted at what she had become. Alex was great in this scene as well.

W - Again don't like this song but i did love it when Ash sung "u want to know my heart's desire .. is to fight u till the death" She was fierce and u cud really see the character beginning to develop into a so called wicked woman. More laughs came when oliver exclaimed "well it was... but it wasnt" Dianne again another great line delivery "fine u deserve each other" she sounded heartbroken.

INTG reprise - what is Dianne doing to me?! I cried so much during this song i cud bearly see "as long as your mine" through the mascara! Dianne did a few sniffs and put every emotion into this gorgeous song. One of my favs of the whole nite. Simple yet really beautiful.

ALAYM - Oliver and Ash hav such a brill connection and its really shown in this song. Just before Dianne finished I cud see oliver and Ash through the trees and Oliver stroked Ash face it was so sweet. They both were very touchy feely in this song and both did sum great rifts. I love Ashleigh's "I feel ... Wicked" Oliver did such a cute smile and they kissed for ages. *swoon* Brilliant duo.

Witch fight scene - hilarious again. Dianne's screaming "Be encouraging" classic! Loads of oooohs with the line "alot of us are taking things that dont belong to us arent we" Great wand twirling as well. Loads and loads of cheers for oliver swinging in. Dianne's "fiyerooooooooo" was so powerful it almost dwarfed ashleighs

NGD - This is Ashleigh's fav song and u cud totally tell she put everything into it. She was fierce and so powerful. Touched her lip when she sang "fiyero" which was a nice touch. She not only belted out this song with such conviction she really acted it. U cud see the guilt and heartbreak in her face. One of the best versions i hav ever heard once again.

MOTWH - Nothing to note except Harriet thorpe scared me half to death. This scene really showed how brill Harriet's interpration of morrible is. She was so evil.

FG - Another one of my favourites. I always cry at this song coz it really means so much to me. And this nite was no exception. I was already welling up when Dianne came down the stairs. Ash sung "Im limited" and I was gone! This song really showed how close Dianne and Ash are. They hav a great connection. Dianne did a few sniffs throughout and both incredible actresses put every emotion into it. I have never heard it better and I was in complete awe of them both by the end.

Fiinale - Dianne got huge laughs when she told the wizard he better get ur balloon ready and when she imitated Harriets "I dont think u will hold up very well ....." and im sure i heard boos as harriet was dragged off! The last song was once again beautiful. Dianne hit every note once again.

CC - Oliver got loads of cheers and Dianne and Ashleigh got a standing ovation which i lead on the circle hehe!! I didnt go to the stage door after which was a bit gutting but we were in a rush.

To sum up ... sorry this is such a long review but i had so much to say. This performance was the best I hav ever ever seen. Ashleigh is defo my fav elphie now but the star of the show was defo the glorious Dianne Pilkington. She was perfect. I cant wait to c the show again!

Great review! I went the day after and it was pretty much the same. In DTL when Dianne and Oli kiss Dianne went 'phew' and let out a huge breath which was cute And I was trying to lip read what they were saying to each other towards the end of the song but I couldn't haha!
